Virtual Computer Lab Information
To better support remote learning, Information Technology Solutions (ITS) is proud to introduce software virtualization through Apporto, UC Riverside's newest virtual computer lab (VLab) service.
What does this mean for you?
This new service allows you to conveniently access common classroom software that’s required to complete your coursework—all through a standard internet browser!
This means you no longer have to worry about:
- purchasing or obtaining a download key for the software;
- having a specific computer operating system in order to run the software;
- having enough space on your hard drive to download and run the software.
What software is currently available?
Currently, all available applications can be accessed through one of two “desktop” views:
- GPU Apps Full Desktop
- ArcGIS Desktop 10.8
- ArcGIS Pro
- Microsoft Office 2019;(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- RDS Apps Full Desktop features:
- EViews 11
- IBM SPSS Statistics 26
- JMP Pro 15
- MATLAB R2020a
- Microsoft Office 2019
- Minitab 19
- R for Windows 3.6.3
- RStudio 1.2.5033
- SAS 9.4
- Stata 16
- Wolfram Mathematica 12.1
Do I have to pay to use this new service?
You've already invested! The new UCR Virtual Lab through Apporto was funded by the Student Technology Fee (STF)
What is happening to the old VMware Horizon VLab?
The old VLab, which could be accessed through the VMware Horizon View Clinet, will be docommissioned at the end of the Spring quarter. We encourage everyone to switch over to the new UCR Apporto VLab now. If you are still using the old VLab and have concerns about it being decommissioned, please contact Sharon Kidwell.
How do I access the new UCR VLab?
Students simply need to visit http://ucr.apporto.com and log-in using their NetID credentials to access the app store. VLab features include the ability to upload and download files to your local computer drive, as well as connect and save directly to a cloud storage account. For complete instructions on how to use the new UCR VLab, read this Knowledgebase article.
